If I should die before I wake...Raven was viewed by ancient Greeks as a psychopomp which is a creature whose responsibility is to escort newly deceased souls from earth to the afterlife. The funerary theme is emphasized by the white poppies which in Greek and Roman myths are used as offerings to and remembrance of the dead.
