RUSSIAN LACE
Birds play prominent and diverse roles in folklore, religion, and popular culture.In my work birds do not necessarily reveal the expected, traditional proverbial characteristics ascribed to them by folklore. Rather, they help portray my personal experiences with the traditions, images, designs, colors, textures and sounds of various cultures.The Swan is an important character in Russian folklore. Exploring the contradictory nature of beauty, I have surrounded the swan by traditional artifacts: on the one side, vanity box ornaments and on the other side, a Russian lace shawl.
